On Sunday January 29, 2023, Lead Apostle Benjamin Ohene-Saffo conducted a divine service at our church in Hohoe. This also served as a memorial and thanksgiving service for the funeral rites of the late, Sister Lydia Poku-Akubia who was buried the previous day. About 233 brethren were in attendance.
Lead Apostle Ohene-Saffo based the service on a bible word from John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
“Dear brethren, once more we are before the Lord to share in His grace. This is found only in the presence of the Lord. A grace for which Jesus Christ was sent into the world” remarked the Lead Apostle in opening the service.
The fall of man and the door of grace
In the beginning, the Lord God created man for everlasting life. Out of the desires of man and disobedience, man came under the curse of the Father. Man is destined to die as a result. However, there exist a window of opportunity to obtain grace through belief in Jesus Christ. It is this desire that must urge us on to appear before the Lord all the time, stated the Lead Apostle.
The love of God
The Lead Apostle stated that, God loved His creation including man. Despite the fall of man, God manifested His deepest love for mankind through the promise to send a saviour. He provided rules and principles to guide man. Through the prophets God established covenants with man in the time of the Israelites. The Lead Apostle emphasized that, the incarnation of Jesus Christ is the manifestation of the totality of God’s love unto humankind. This is the gift God gave to the world for our salvation. He is all God had, yet He was offered for the life eternal.
Belief in Jesus Christ; the gate to everlasting life
“The only way to eternal life is to listen to the voice of God by believing in the teaching of Jesus Christ. One must also believe in and partake worthily of the sacraments. No one shall by any other means enter into the eternal life of God except through Jesus Christ”, the Lead Apostle averred. He entreated members to live in accordance with the word of God and thereby attain everlasting life.
Concluding the sermon, Lead Apostle Ohene-Saffo emphasized that, “Jesus Christ is the best gift from God, out of His love he sent Him. They that believe in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. This is the most important for us children of God.”
The Lead Apostle also encouraged the husband, children and family of the late Sister Lydia to remain steadfast in the Lord. He assured them of the love of God and the promise to meet our beloved sister in the everlasting life.
The service was supported by Lead Apostle Samuel Oppong-Brenya (Northern Ghana) and Apostle Charles Asare (Accra).
