“Today is another sad day for us. We cannot agree more with the song sung by the choristers, and we also ask ourselves; Where is our God? The Late Apostle (Retired) Charles Johannes Ohemeng served, converted many souls unto the Father. We would love to have him live longer, stay longer but his earthly time has come to an end”.

These were some of the opening remarks of Lead Apostle Benjamin Ohene-Saffo who conducted a burial service for the late Apostle (retired) on Saturday 29th April, 2023 at the Tema Church, Accra East District, Accra Apostle Working Area. He was accompanied by Lead Apostle Geoffrey Nwogu (Nigeria), Apostle Oscar Kabanga (Nigeria) as well as twelve Apostles and one Bishop from Ghana.

The funeral service was based on a bible word from 2 Timothy 4:6-8, “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

Elaborating on the bible word, Lead Apostle Ohene-Saffo explained that, this world has both an entry and exit ways. Where we come from into the world we do not know and the life we live on earth determine our lives after death. Man has been offered grace by Jesus Christ, escaping the Judgement. For this reason, Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, “I have fought the good fight…” because he was saved by the grace and now ready to depart from earth awaiting the Lord’s return, he emphasized.

The Lead Apostle further stated, no one knows when they would die but when such time arrives, can we also say, ‘I also have fought the good fight?’. Referring to the letter by Apostle Paul to Timothy, the Southern Ghana leader explained that Apostle Paul lived and fought for his soul not his flesh, putting away all earthly desires and kept the doctrine of Christ which carries the forgiveness of sins. Now, a crown of righteousness awaits him. Those who believe in deities would be judged by such and we who believe in Christ Jesus do not fear judgement and await His return. We shall partake in the first resurrection and return to the earth as Priests and Kings.

“Brethren, let us fight the good fight against sin and all earthly desires and not be drawn away from the Lord until His return” concluded the Lead Apostle.

The Life of Apostle Ohemeng
The retired Apostle Charles Johannes Ohemeng worked in the West Area of Nigeria from 1978 until his retirement by Chief Apostle Jean Luc Schneider on the February 19, 2013. He served as a minister for 38 years, 11 of them as an Apostle. He was invited into the New Apostolic Church and sealed by the late District Apostle Gottfried Rockenfelder on May 11, 1975 at Accra.

He received the following ministries:
He was ordained a Deacon in 1975, and then a Priest in 1977, and was sent to Nigeria to continue the work of God.

He was ordained as a Community Evangelist in 1978, a Shepherd in 1981, District Evangelist in 1984, a District Elder in 1987, a Bishop in 1992 and ordained as an Apostle on July 11, 2004 by Chief Apostle Richard Fehr during a divine service in Accra, Ghana.

He was a very devout, principled, and humble servant of God. He touched the heart of many with financial help and kind gestures that changed many lives. His love for Jesus Christ and all brothers and sisters made him a source of love and such got him a lot of grandchildren named after him by friends, families, loved ones, and non-relatives.

On Monday November 14, 2022, he was called home by our Heavenly Father after a short illness. He was 74 years and is survived by his wife, Sister Betty Ohemeng, three sons and a daughter.

The retired Apostle contributed effectively to the development of the work of God in Nigeria, especially in Administration and seminar work.
