Two districts, Takoradi North and South, came together to celebrate the resurrection of Christ in a united divine service at the Kojokrom congregation on Easter Sunday. Bishop Thomas Ampofo led this special service.
The text word for the service was taken from 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, “For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ, all shall be made alive.”
Christ is risen from the dead
Bishop Ampofo explained the background context of Apostle Paul’s letter to the people of Corinth. “Apostle Paul's letter to the Corinthians was not made in a vacuum, he knew about the doubts and confusion among the people, hence our text word.”
He continued: “Apostle Paul stood firmly and explained that indeed Christ had risen and if Christ had not, then they preached in futility and the faith of those who believed was worthless. He inspired and ensured assurance of our faith and eternal goal, in the power over death by Jesus.”
Sacraments for the dead
The Bishop continued: “Not only for us the living, but also for those who have died before us and those yet to be born are also rescued and assured by the power of His resurrection. As a result of Christ’s victory over the death, we shall all be resurrected. This is the redemption of the soul.”
Truly this was the Son of God
We carry some measure of guilt for Christ's death due to our willful disobedience. The soldier who presided over the execution of Christ became a firm believer and confessed that Jesus was the Son of God. “Why do we still have doubts about Jesus Christ? If we do not wholly believe in Him, it will be difficult to resurrect when Christ returns.”
The Bishop ended the service by saying that the death and resurrection of Christ has brought us victory. “Christ stood firm, and never was quiet until His death. Christ prayed at the point of death. Let us emulate the nature of Christ.”
Bishop Thomas Ampofo was assisted by District Rector Fenyi (Takoradi South) and District Rector Asuah.
