The Windy Ridge congregation could not have had a gift on a better day than Pentecost; the day on which the Church was born. Apostle George Sam, accompanied by Bishop Ampofo and District Rectors Fenyi and Asuah, led the congregation on Pentecost Day, to dedicate the newly constructed building as their new home.

The Takoradi Apostle based this special Pentecost and Church dedication service on Jude 20, “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”

In his opening address, the Apostle expressed his appreciation to all stakeholders for their outstanding hard work and various contributions that led to the completion of the building.

The Holy Spirit: Our help, guide and focus
The Apostle shared some key thoughts in this special service:

  • “The Holy Spirit is the bedrock of our spiritual life. Without the help of the Holy Spirit, there is nothing that we can do. We are to stay under the teaching and doctrine of the Apostles, just like what the early Christians did by following the Apostles.”
  • “We are to pray in the Spirit, meaning that we are to lay aside our fleshly nature and be led and guided by the will of God.”
  • We must build up and centre our faith on Jesus Christ, depending on Him in all things

Ending the service, the Apostle advised the congregation to own the church building and ensure it is maintained in good shape for the benefit of posterity, just as the Holy Spirit continues to maintain and care for the Church through the Apostles.  On this special day, 7 souls were sealed.

The story of Windy Ridge Congregation
Giving a brief history of the building at the dedication ceremony, deputy district Imbeah Rtd, the first rector of the Takoradi congregation, said district rector Tulashi Rtd and his family arrived in the twin city Sekondi-takoradi in the western region from Accra.

Narrating the history of the congregation, Deputy District Rector Imbeah (rtd) told the story of how District Elder Tulashie (rtd) arrived in Sekondi-Takoradi from Accra in the 1986, and won 25 souls, including all of his family members, after weeks of vineyard work.

This number birthed the Sekond-Takoradi congregation, with some more members joining with time. They first congregated in a primary school classroom at Nkotopo and later moved to mud-house Sekondi due to government ban. Whilst at Sekondi, their membership grew, and a decision was taken to divide the congregation into two to establish another at Takoradi.

District Elder Tulashie (rtd) and some members remained in Sekondi while Deputy District Rector Imbeah (rtd) and the others moved to Efiakumah to establish the Takoradi congregation. The congregation fellowshipped in a cinema, but had to relocate after the cinema was sold. Finding a place for divine service had been a challenge; the Takoradi congregation moved 5 times before finding their permanent home in this new 50-capacity edifice at Windy Ridge, an easily accessible suburb in Takoradi.
Unfortunately, the frequent movement affected the membership of the congregation which once stood above 150 souls.

Apostle George Sam, and District Rector Asuah, with the help of other members of the congregation, helped in the search of a parcel of land to find a permanent home for the congregation. In 2023, the Apostle cut sod to begin the construction of a building for the congregation.
