"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." – Psalm 116:15 (NKJV)
A Tribute by the Osu Congregation

Sister Lily Ama Amoafi Asare, a cherished mother, wife, sister, and chorister, was born on June 21, 1960, in Adeiso (Asamankese) to the late Mr. Yaw Amponsah Asare and the late Madam Ama Sakaa. She was the eighth of nine children in her family. In 1983, she met Shepherd Okyere (Retired) in Accra. They got married and were blessed with three sons.

She was baptized with water and grew up in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. However, after marrying Shepherd Samuel Kwame Okyere (Retired) in 1983, she joined the New Apostolic Church. She was adopted and sealed with the Holy Spirit on April 3, 1983, at the Osu Congregation by the late Apostle I.N. Kankam and Apostle Rudolf Shilling.

From that moment on, her strong commitment to her faith became a shining light that guided not only her own life but also the lives of those who knew her. Lily Ama Asare was much more than a member of the New Apostolic Church, Osu Congregation; she was a key part of the spiritual family. Her dedication to the choir was a beautiful gift to the Lord, as she gave her all in every rehearsal and performance from 1983 until her untimely death in October 2024. Her soprano voice, like her spirit, brought us all closer to God, and her love for the Lord shone through every note. Besides her musical contributions, her kindness, willingness to serve in the church’s outreach programs, and ability to inspire others made her a cornerstone of our community.

As we remember her life, we do not only mourn her passing but also celebrate the rich legacy she leaves behind—a life devoted to service, faith, and love. Sister Lily Ama Asare has made a lasting impact on the hearts of the Osu Congregation and beyond. She left behind her husband, Shepherd Samuel Kwame Okyere (Retired), and three sons: Priests Isaac Kwaku Kankam-Okyere and Philip Kwabena Osei Bonsu Okyere, and Deacon Samuel Ekow Okyere, along with four grandchildren.

“Sister Lily Ama Amoafi Asare, sleep comfortably well in the bosom of the Triune God till we meet again. Da yie, Nyame mfa wo nkↄ wↄ asomdwoe mu.”
