Good Friday is a day of somber reflection, reminding us of the depth of God's love and the bitter suffering and death of our Lord, Jesus Christ. On Friday, April 18, 2025, members of the New Apostolic Church, Osu Congregation, gathered for a festive divine service led by Community Evangelist Sampson Boakye.
The text word for the service was from 2 Corinthians 5:14-15: "For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again". Additionally, a Bible passage from Luke 23:13-25 was read by Sister Barbara.
In the Community Evangelist’s introductory words, he emphasized and discussed:
- The significance of Good Friday, explaining that Jesus' sacrifice fulfilled biblical prophecies.
- The role of the high priest in the Old Testament and the events leading to Jesus’ death, including the release of Barabbas.
The Community Evangelist added;
- Christ died to deliver us from sin, allowing us to have our sins forgiven.
- Today's text word tells us to walk in the footsteps of Christ out of love, and he asked, ‘But do we?’ The Community Evangelist elaborated on God's depth of love, including the creation of humanity and Jesus' sinless sacrifice for mankind so that Man can live forever as if Man never sinned.
The Community Evangelist continued, “The congregation sang the hymn ‘I Gave My Life for Thee,’ which prompts the reflective question: ‘What are we giving to Christ in return?’” He stressed the need to testify of Christ to the world, to live for Him on earth through our words and actions, and to pursue holiness through the Holy Spirit, which we receive through Holy Baptism.
Concluding the sermon, the Community Evangelist, Sampson Boakye, reminded the congregation of the cleansing power of Jesus' sacrifice and the importance of living a life that reflects Christ. He was supported by Community Evangelist Mingle and Priest Adjei.
