Christmas – a season of joy, reflection, and spiritual renewal—was celebrated with great fervour at the New Apostolic Church, Osu Congregation in the Accra East District (Accra Apostle Area) on Thursday, December 25, 2025. The festive divine service, led by the Congregation Rector, Samuel Attiemo Kwapong, reflected on the profound significance of Christ’s birth, God’s enduring love, the promise of eternal life, and the importance of faith and obedience in the Christian journey.
The text word for the service was taken from Luke 2:10–11:“Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”
Additionally, Brother Magnus Cofie read the Bible passage for the occasion from Matthew 1:18–25.
The Joy of Christ’s Birth
In introducing the sermon, Rector Kwapong reminded the congregation of the profound joy of Christmas—the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. He recounted the events surrounding His birth, including Joseph’s dream and the angelic announcement to the shepherds, who found the newborn Saviour lying in a manger.
Continuing the sermon, he explained that:
- God gives gifts based on the heart, faith, and acceptance of His Word—not on deeds.
- God’s love for humanity was revealed through the birth of Jesus Christ. His coming restored the joy lost through humanity’s fall from grace and fulfilled God’s plan of salvation.
Earthly Joy vs. Heavenly Joy
Rector Kwapong highlighted the difference between earthly joy—often tied to material achievements—and heavenly joy, which comes only from God. He referenced:
- The prodigal son, who pursued earthly desires
- Deacon Stephen and Job, who found joy even in trials because their hope was rooted in God
He further reminded the congregation that:
- The joy of Christmas is celebrated through faith and Christian service. Despite the world’s challenges, Christians rejoice because Jesus Christ has opened the path to salvation.
- The Holy Spirit guides believers to find salvation from sin, within the church of Christ, through the Apostles. Obedience to the Word of God, proclaimed by the Apostles and inspired by the Holy Spirit, is essential for understanding the message of salvation.
Conclusion
In closing, Rector Kwapong encouraged everyone to rejoice in the profound gift of salvation—eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. He was assisted in the service by Community Evangelist Mingle and Priests Philip and Yeboah
