Ministers being retired
9 January 2026

The Second Sunday of Advent was a day of profound blessings and spiritual upliftment for the Ho Central Congregation and several selected congregations within the Volta Central Apostle Area on 7th December 2025. The occasion was marked by a festive Divine Service, which included ministerial retirements, ordinations, and a special night of hymns featuring performances by the Ho Central Congregation Choir.

Pre‑Event Activities
The celebrations began on Saturday evening with a special night of hymns, graced by Apostles Osei and Kuada. The choir delivered soul‑stirring performances designed to prepare the hearts and minds of the congregation for the sacred events of the following day.

Divine Service
On Sunday, Apostle Richard Osei conducted the Divine Service, supported by Apostle Alexander Poku‑Akubia from the Volta North Apostle Area, along with District Ministers and their Deputies. The service was anchored on the scripture from John 3:19–20: “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.”

The Power of Light
The Apostle reminded the congregation that the Second Sunday of Advent is a season of hope, preparation, and divine blessing. It calls believers to reflect on Jesus Christ—the Light of the world—who came to dispel darkness and lead humanity into righteousness. The timeless struggle between good and evil is one every believer faces daily. The message of the Divine Service emphasized the importance of walking in the light and choosing good, even when surrounded by the shadows of the world. Jesus reveals a profound truth: the Light has come, and His name is Jesus Christ. Yet many still choose darkness because it conceals their deeds. Darkness represents sin, ignorance, and separation from God. But the good news remains—Christ came to bring a light that exposes, heals, and transforms.

Choosing Good Over Evil
The Apostle encouraged the congregation to remain steadfast in choosing good in a world filled with temptations:

  • Embrace the Light of Christ: Seek Jesus continually in prayer, worship, and daily living. His light guides believers away from evil and toward righteousness.
  • Support and Encourage One Another: As a church family, members are called to uplift one another—especially those serving in ministry—and to be living witnesses of goodness.
  • Spread the Light: Just as the choir inspired the congregation through hymns, believers are encouraged to let their words and actions draw others out of darkness into the glorious light of Christ.

Conclusion
The Divine Service reminded all present that although the battle between good and evil continues, victory is assured through Jesus Christ. Believers are called to walk diligently as children of light, choosing righteousness, love, and truth so they may confidently proclaim that good has triumphed over evil.

Retirement and Ordination
During the service, seven ministers were placed into retirement—a Shepherd, two Evangelists, three Priests, and a Deacon. Six new ministers were ordained to support the work in the Area.

Recognition and Benevolence
As part of the celebration, the retirees received citations and tokens of appreciation in recognition of their faithful service. Presentations were also extended to ministers who had retired in previous years, including Apostle Timothy Akubia, District Elders Albert Avedzi and Rudolph Ebelin, District Evangelists Gershon Gbey and Cosmos Dable, and Priest Simon Loh.
